Recently I was approached by a few people over at http://www.kashikicks.com/ wondering how they could be featured on We Love Kicks. Needless to say, I was honored that they were interested in using my site to gain some exposure. I simply requested they send me a pair of their shoes to test out and give a review on. They kindly accepted.

The particular sneaker that I was interested was the "Mobile Player Generation 2", as it's called on their site. Upon inspection, I noticed this shoe was a combination of comfort and style. Theyre a lightweight, sleek, casual looking shoe with an air bubble to the near and velcro strapped on the upper. They have a material most of us know as "3M", which is a reflective material (like what you see on the green bean Jordan V's). I like the use of the different materials, because its not too over the top, but still fun and stylish at the same time.

Kashi Kicks has alot of different styles of kicks to choose from. So head over and check out their site. Get ready to see some sneakers like you've never seen before. Kashi Kicks is known for their use of bright colors and crazy materials, so dont be alarmed. Haha.

Kashi Kicks; Heavy in Hardcore

With celebrities and artists such as Shawty Lo, DJ Khaled, and Flavor Flav rockin Kashi’s, its no mystery that Kashi Kicks has been synonymous with the hip-hop and urban cultures since its inception in 2006. It was only a matter of time until these unique styles were embraced by artists in other genres who are trying to make a statement.

In a complete 360 degree spin from what Kashi is known for, the kicks can now be found being endorsed by two bands in the “hardcore” or “heavy metal” culture of music. This trend was started in early 2008 when hardcore band Those Who Fear (www.myspace.com/thosewhofear) picked up the brand and started promoting Kashi in cities all over the country while on tour.

The name Kashi quickly began to gain momentum as a result of the efforts of Those Who Fear, and in a more recent collaboration, Kashi Kicks has begun to work with a band from Minneapolis called Venia (www.myspace.com/veniamusic).

Both Those Who Fear and Venia make a very strong statement with the types of music that they create, so it comes as no surprise that they would want to rep something as bold and elaborate as the Kashi Kicks styles.

Kashi Kicks hits the Runway!

The event lasted two days, taking place on October 3-4th of 2008. Kashi Kicks was featured amongst fourteen nationally renowned designers. The Art Institute of Phoenix sponsored Phoenix Runway to benefit Alice Cooper's Solid Rock charity organization. It is a Christian based organization that was started by Arizona natives, Alice Cooper and Steve Savale. Created in 1995, it was intended to be a safe haven for teenagers. Here they can have recreational fun and not worry about the dangers that may find them on the streets. The two founders' motivation was through their own children approaching their teen years.

Along with benefiting Solid Rock, the event was created in order to create a more affluent fashion scene in throughout the city of Phoenix. Thanks to this event, more than 300 local college students could gain experience in High Fashion. Kashi Kicks is proud to have had the chance to be involved. I dont say that about many things unless I believe in something like I do with this company. The Kashi Kicks lifestyle brand is created by designer Alan Kashi. I like creative people like this is why I am blogging about it. This designer who has created this has some major talent as an artist. With so many creative artistic ideas added into shoes, belts and handbags. When looking at the products I think works of art. All so stunning that I can feel the love was put into each design. The colors with graphics are so amazing to see is very cool to the eyes.

I have never seen anything like these designs. I am very impressed with it all. Created many shoes for men and women that are so stylish and fashion forward. Amazing attention getting shoes, handbags, belts and more. It is very unique and different the designs put on anything it would become popular. Being a woman those graphics would be great on clothing like tops, jackets, dresses, skirts, heels and even sexy boots could be so neat. I am for sure a fan of this fashion line. Montezuma’s Revenge?

Well, sort of.

I don’t claim to be famous in the blogosphere, but I think a lot of fashion bloggers generally know that someone is going around scouting blogs and giving away shoes from Solestruck. And that happens to be me.

Anyway, so a few weeks ago, the position was polarized when a representative from Kashi Kicks emailed me asking if I’d like to sample a pair of their sneaks.

My automatic reaction was a resounding “YES.”

I’d heard of the brand before. Mostly from BDaddy Bryce, my boss, who got to go to the WSA Conference in Vegas. The shoes are definitely hip-hop and full of bling, and after watching a few videos about the brand, I understood that these shoes were meant to be kind of like jewelry for your feet. And knowing me, a total hipster/prepster, I wasn’t sure if they would be my style, although I’d been jonesing for a pair of skate sneaks.

After much deliberation, I settled on a pair of their Matador Pianos (they retail for $99), from their signature Liberace line, which is inspired by the flamboyant pianist of the same name. I wanted something a bit more downplayed so the shoes could be integrated into my wardrobe, and this seemed like a viable pick. Despite the fact that there are piano keys on the panels and around the border, and the entire upper seems to sparkle, the color palette is actually relatively subdued compared to some of the other shoes. The blacks meld well with the white and silver, while the traditional “matador” red adds a little kick.

After I’d placed my order, I started going out regularly to check the mail whenever the UPS dude came to the office. Really. I was that excited.

So of course they come on a Friday, which I have off. Monday comes, and the box is waiting for me on my desk. After inspection, they’re really everything I hoped they’d be. They have sparkly laces, with extra laces if you decide to change them. They came with a certificate of authenticity, and a chandelier keychain. Bling-bling, baby!

I wore them all day yesterday, even though I was wearing gray slacks. Hehe!

Overall, they’re pretty comfortable, and they accommodated my wide foot, which is always a plus. However, I didn’t realize this when I ordered them, but I chose a men’s style, and men’s shoes fit a bit differently than the ladies. It’s a tad long, but I think if I sized down, they’d be too small. And the arch is a little too far up on the foot. I suppose if I’d realized when ordering the shoes that the “M” next to the size actually stands for “Mens” instead of “Medium Width,” I could have chosen a shoe labeled as “L” for “Ladies.” My bad!

In any case, I’m enjoying my new glittery and bejeweled shoes, and they’ll totally be fun to wear around town.

Lori trusted my sneaker sense when asked by Alex from Kashi Kicks for a product review. After checking out their site http://kashikicks.com/ and speaking to Alex, I received a package with 2 pairs! The women's model PIANO and the fella's model BBOY Sneaker Factory...both in my size!! Thanks Alex!! I myself don't wear red too much, however I will be shopping for something to go with the BBOY's!! I don't favor pantent leather too much either, however the intricate woven design in the toebox and on the mid panels is cool! The PIANO model is a great concept of creativity with the piano key midsole, lace, and glitter...just a bit too much for me. I do love the fuzzy inside of the sneaker! Had they created a solid panel I would have been all for it! When I was at the Hip Hop Cultural Center in Harlem on Saturday for the Women in Hip Hop art segment, I brought both pairs along to display and the ladies seemed to gravitate to the PIANO model so there are fans ready to add them to their collection!! They offer a new innovative approach to the regular sneaker concept with the idea that not only can you wear jewelry on your neck, ears, and wrist, but now you can even ice-out your sneakers, and with style. Several members of the hip hop community have already began to pledge their support, like George Clinton, Flavor Flav, Talib Kweli, Joey Porter, 40 Cal, Shawty Lo, Ginuwine, and more. Kashi Kicks embraces this support to the fullest by giving back to up-and-coming artists through sponsored mixtape projects and other promotions. Kashi Kicks a Big Hit at The Heidelberg Festival in Detroit

Kashi Kicks was present at this year’s Heidelberg Street Project Festival in Detroit. This event titled “It’s All About the D,” featured Hair Wars, Detroit Fashion Week, and much more. This free event included activities such as work by local artists, a children’s corner, food and music. A special thanks goes to Weaven Steven and Hump the Grinder for making Kashi Kicks a part of this event.

Fashion Design Students Showcase Work at Miracle Mile Shops

A handful of aspiring fashion designers at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Henderson have teamed with a prominent shoe designer to create clothing to match his outrageous styles.

They showed off their creations, along with the Alan Kashi-designed Kashi Kicks that inspired them, in a fashion show at Planet Hollywood's Miracle Mile Shops on Aug. 26.
Kashi's style, which combines bright colors and vibrant prints to create tennis shoes of unparalleled uniqueness, posed a different kind of challenge for the design students.
"One girl didn't win because her designs were too commercial," said Carolyn Thomas, program chair of fashion design at the academy. "These designs were supposed to be out there."
The students submitted drawings of their ideas and then those who were selected as winners were given two weeks to bring their creations to life.
"It took all of our creativity to see what we could come up with," student Ricamae Lmibao said.
Once notified that they had been selected, the students' first challenge was to find real-life fabrics to match the color and style of Kashi. One student searched for hours online before she found the right one, while other students resorted to making their own stencils or painting their own fabric.
Some designers said the challenge stretched them to their limits. Others called it a dream project.
"I love color," Princess Madison said. "Give me any type of inspirational color, and I'll go crazy for it, because who doesn't love color?"
With fabrics and designs in hand, the students got to work, but soon found out that they would be working with petite models who were significantly smaller than the designs the students had prepared.
"I made for a Size 8, but actually, (the model) was Size 6," Eunha Kim said.
Thomas said the project was a valuable learning experience because it taught the designers to think on their feet and quickly adapt to real-world problems, which recreated in a classroom setting.
"This is more of what it would be like if you had a real customer," Thomas said. "It's not always smooth sailing."
Once all the challenges had been dealt with, the designers agreed that the experience was a highlight of their schoolwork. For most, it was their first chance to work with a model and have their creation shown on a runway.
Thomas said she was impressed by the students' creations and was proud of what they learned.
"It was a far more comprehensive way of putting their skills to work," she said. "They had to be creative, they had to take the designs they were given and put them to work."

Our booth could be found in the South Hall in the Street Wear section, and we really got a lot of positive attention from all sorts of people. The Look: BabyStone

There they are: Novena Carmel and Itai Shapira - collectively BabyStone - walking up the drive, bags of clothes nestled in one arm, instruments in the other. Novena smiles an infectious grin, her hair an electric forest; Itai is subdued, the quiet cool but a Jimi Hendrix-twinkle.

If you haven't heard of BabyStone, that's quite alright - musical ignorance is to be forgiven - but if you happen to be reading this article and still wish not to hear them, then your insufferable lack of curiousity is rather revolting, because BabyStone is a modern funkadelic wonderment of soulful blues and jazzy bliss.

But for purposes of this article - this Fashion article -, musical ignorance and revolting lack of curiousity will be over-looked, because at the end of the day we don't care about the music they sing, but the threads they bring.

The day started with Novena in a dress so colorfully psychedelic only someone with Novena's confidence could pull it off, couple it with a pair of sparkling pink Liberace sneakers (her father Sly Stone - of Sly and the Family Stone - has a pair too, though in black) and she's pushed the ensemble to the envelope but looks brilliant in the process. Itai contains his cool in a smart D&G suit and white tee, a hat the glue that brings it to life.
